languages

There are ways of thinking I can't even fathom because I don't speak the language of the thinker.

Quag dab peg in Hmong means 'the spirit catches you and you fall down'.

In English, this translates to 'epilepsy'.

I had another moment of wonder comparable to this three years ago in Arles, France. The stalls of the open-air market lined the streets as we were waiting for our bus, and I noticed a sign on a stall selling olives: "Olives Douces Noirs". Gentle black olives.

People talk about everything that's lost in translation so it seems that no one realizes what can be gained.

I have painting class at 9:20 and this is how I spend my night.

  1. welcome to my world. Being up obscenely late is great for blogging and thinking on a cosmic level. It sure is a bad idea in the morning, however.
